The SmartWay Program High Performers are those trucking companies that have the greatest reduction in their carbon footprint. This means having the technology and driver behaviors in place to use less fuel and release fewer emissions. One of those companies is ABF Freight System Inc., an LTL trucking company that is under the ownership of ArcBest. See how the truck drivers at ABF Freight were able to achieve the High Performer status by EPA in the SmartWay Partner program.

About SmartWay High Performers

Every year only a select few trucking companies are able to achieve High Performer rankings with the SmartWay Program. Here are the different achievement lists within the High Performers, along with how many SmartWay partners are included:

  • SmartWay High Performers Truck Carriers—2 percent of SmartWay carriers for all metrics and less than 10 percent for carbon metrics
  • Dray Carrier Fleets—15 percent for particulate matter and nitrogen oxides metrics
  • Shippers—5 percent of all shippers for all emissions and metric criteria
  • Logistics Providers—less than 5 percent of logistics service providers
  • Multimodal Carriers—only eight carriers/partners are included in this category

The SmartWay High Performer Multimodal Carriers category is where ABF Freight System, Inc. fits includes:

  2. DSV Road Transport
  3. JB Hunt Transport, Inc.
  4. Kleysen Group Ltd.
  5. Marten Transport LTD

Being a partner with the SmartWay Program also helps the ABF Freight fleet of drivers is run compliant with the DOT. The latest fuel emissions technology ensures drivers meet emissions requirements, for example. This saves time and money when trying to get freight delivered on time.

According to CEO and president of ArcBest, the parent company of ABF Freight, Judy R. McReynolds said, “At ArcBest and ABF Freight, we are committed to reducing emissions and improving fuel efficiency while we deliver a best-in-class experience for our customers. We are always studying ways to improve our environmental sustainability, and we are honored that ABF is among the EPA SmartWay High Performers for 2019.”
